Ratnagiri Estate has been producing quality coffee since 1927 and is located in the majestic Western Ghats region of southern India, near Bababudangiri. The Petre family owns the farm, which grows multiple varieties between 1250 and 1450 meters above sea level. Generations of the Patre family have dedicated their lives to caring for the land which has rewarded their passion and perseverance. Ratnagiri literally means "pearl mountains" and is named after the silver oaks that give shade to the coffee plants, providing a silvery hue to the hills where the farm is located.

The family pays particular attention to shade and water and the farm follows strict quality standards in order to produce high-quality coffees. Indeed, the plantation is designed to achieve 50% shade and the farm is supplied with spring water from two streams in the nearby mountain.

I exclusively brewed the Ratnagiri Estate - Anaerobic Black Honey - Medium Roast in my 2-cup moka pot, using 9-11 clicks on my C2 grinder (finer than my usual setting for medium roast). The resulting coffee had a rich and strong taste, providing a smooth and velvety sensation in the mouth. While the raspberry and peach flavors were present, they were not as vibrant, allowing the coffee's richness to shine through. The aftertaste was pleasantly creamy and lingering.

When brewed in a moka pot, you can expect a full-bodied and robust coffee with a balanced touch of fruitiness from Ratnagiri Estate. It's important to note that while this may not be the finest offering from Ratnagiri Estate, and it's not my preferred choice for daily moka pot brewing, I still enjoyed it for its unique flavor profile and the overall experience it provided. Perhaps trying it with an AeroPress could yield a different perspective, but for now, this is my honest impression.

Hi Akshat,

Thank you for trying our coffee; at this point we are not sure you liked it or not. In that case we hope it was worth the cost, and our service was up to it's mark.

We would certainly request you to visit our roastary in the future, we have 5 different style of pour-over style available in the roastary. If you want to try the AeroPress, please checkout our reels on Instagram, we do have few patrons using AeroPress.

Best regards,
